Repentance

Confessing and Acknowledgment of Sin

Repentance: Confessing and Acknowledging Sin
The message of salvation has always begun with one urgent command: repent. Before a person can walk the road that leads to life, they must first acknowledge the truth about their condition. Repentance is not a casual apology or a moment of regret. It is the confession of sin, the recognition of guilt before a holy God, and the turning of the heart toward Him in surrender.
John the Baptist opened his ministry with this very call. In Matthew 3:2, he proclaimed:
“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” (NAS)
He wasn’t offering a suggestion—he was announcing a divine requirement. The kingdom of heaven was drawing near, and only those who turned from sin would be prepared to enter it.
Jesus Himself continued this same message. When He came into Galilee proclaiming the gospel of God, He declared in Mark 1:15:
“The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” (NAS)
Repentance and belief are inseparable. Repentance turns you away from sin; belief turns you toward Christ. One without the other is incomplete. Together, they form the doorway into the narrow road of salvation.
Repentance is the moment a sinner stops running from God and starts running to Him. It is the confession that we are guilty, the acknowledgment that we cannot save ourselves, and the surrender that opens the heart to the saving grace of Jesus Christ.
